As fate would have it, the two singers I first approached in the very beginning became friends and now lead our band. When we began performing live, we didn't have enough material, so we performed with other featured singers from our previous releases. Tobias and Sophia seemed to get along from the start. I decided to focus all new material on them and pause working with other vocalist. With four songs a piece, we split the live set in two. That worked great for a while but talk of them singing together grew louder. Finally, a song came along with an 80's duet power ballad vibe. I asked if they could make it happen and they crushed it. Now we all want more of it, like all the time.
Skies the limit.
On recordings, EBTE has always used two guitars. I placed a craigslist ad looking for a second guitarist. Andy was the third person to respond. I sent him the set and a couple of bassline demos. To my surprise he sent back demo #23 with fully written guitar parts. It was so good, I forwarded it to the band. "What just happened? Who is this guy?" they asked. I responded "His name is Andy and apparently he's in the band now. We need this song!". When we finally got Andy into the rehearsal space, he was prepared with notes, ready to go. Honestly, it feels like he's been there the entire time.
When putting together a band to play Everything But The Everything's first show, Ian was the first person I called. We've known each other for a long time. We did some shows when he played in Fire In The Hamptons. We also played together in the Jonbenet Stranglehold, back when we were teenagers. Ian holds down guitar for EBTE's live shows. Now he's taken on guitar duties in the studio. We have two new songs that have Ian's fingertips all over them. More to come.
When looking for a drummer to play live, I was introduced to Chad. We decided meet and have a quick jam. Out of the gate we played in sync, and I knew this was going to work. Now, two years of playing together, the band is gelling, and our live show are getting better. Chad is a big part of that. He brings experience, rock-solid rhythm, and calming a presence. He's bailed a few of us out when performing. When we've missed a part, or second guessed ourselves, in that panic, Chad makes eye contact and guides us back to solid ground. Thank you, Chad.
